Are unsafe baby products threatening your child’s safety right now? The alarming truth is that child and baby product recalls have hit an all-time high. A recent segment aired on CBS found more than 84 million items were recalled in 2023 alone! Behind these staggering numbers are devastated families who trusted manufacturers with their children’s lives. It’s a nightmare no parent should have to live through.
A Parent Who Did Everything Right
When Kirsten Connolly placed her healthy six-week-old son Jameson in a Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play in 2015, she had no idea it would be the last time she’d see him alive. “It was sleep-saving, like people said it was,” Connolly recounts. But hours later, her fiancé’s scream confirmed every parent’s worst nightmare—Jameson had stopped breathing in his sleep.
“It just took my life. It took everything from me,” Connolly says.
For over a year, Connolly received no answers. Jameson’s death certificate simply stated “undetermined.” It wasn’t until 2019—four years after her son’s death—that she discovered Fisher-Price had recalled the very product Jameson died in.
Here’s what makes this case especially disturbing. According to CPSC records, the Rock ‘n Play has been tied to at least 100 infant deaths since 2012 and a congressional investigation found Fisher-Price failed to ensure the product was safe before bringing it to market—yet they still did.
Manufacturers Can Delay and Even Deny Closure
The legal system offers little protection for victims. Attorney Regina Calcaterra explains how manufacturers manipulate the system: “They’re actually weaponizing the statute of limitations. For years, they hid the fact that babies were dying.”
Case in point: Fisher-Price knew about injuries and deaths as early as 2012 but delayed the recall until 2019. When Connolly sought justice, Mattel (Fisher-Price’s parent company) had her case dismissed, arguing she needed to file before May 2017—two years before they even recalled their dangerous product.
Who’s Protecting Your Children?
The tragedy continues to devastate Connolly, who lost not only her son but also her fiancé to suicide two years later. Despite recently losing her appeal, she remains determined: “I will never stop this fight and pursue it to bring justice to both of them.” Her fighting spirit is one any parent can understand—and she, like so many others, deserves justice.
