For over 30 years, individuals onsite at Camp Lejeune were repeatedly exposed to VOCS or Volatile Organic Compounds, in the drinking water.
The United States Marine Corps discovered the VOC toxic chemicals in the drinking water at the Camp Lejeune Base in North Carolina in 1982. It was also discovered that the contamination began in 1953, 29 years prior, and existed until the ‘most contaminated wells’ were removed in 1985.
The toxins in the water included:
