What is Erb’s palsy?
Erb’s palsy is a kind of obstetrical brachial plexus issue. More specifically, it is the result of nerve damage to the nerves that move from the spinal cord to the arms, neck, and shoulder during birth. This damage can lead to issues controlling movement or feeling in the fingers, hand, and arm, and is sometimes the result of medical negligence or malpractice.
What causes Erb’s palsy?
Erb’s palsy can often be caused by injury that was avoidable – injury that could have been prevented had the doctor in question recognized the factors likely to lead to the injury and taken proactive measures. A particularly large baby, an irregularly shaped pelvis, gestational diabetes, an infant in breech position, or a prior delivery of a child that experienced brachial plexus palsy or shoulder dystocia are all issues that your doctor should have recognized.
If you think your child’s Erb’s palsy was the result of medical neglect or malpractice, I can help. I’m the Erb’s palsy attorney you need in Columbus, OH.
