Severe illnesses and cancers have been linked to thousands of harmful chemicals commonly referred to as PFA’S. PFA’s (Per- and Polyfluorinated Substances) are man made chemicals that have been found in everything from coatings on products we use every day, to the water we drink.

Common PFA Exposures

  • Fire and heat repellent coatings on products
  • Non-stick cookware
  • Water repellent coatings on products and clothing
  • Personal care products
  • Stain resistant coatings
  • Manufacturing applications
  • Oil processing applications
  • Industrial applications / waste
  • Drinking water contamination

The widespread use and exposure to PFA’s is the increasing cause for more and more individuals to have serious and deadly health problems.

Scientific Evidence Supports Claims PFAS Are Harmful to Humans

More and more scientific evidence that PFAS are harmful to humans.  Here are just a few of the recent studies:

Exposure and Health: In a July, 2022 study, researchers evaluated the “annual disease burden and associated social costs” from exposure to PFAS, and found it to be a staggering $5.52 billion.

Environmental Protection Agency: The Environmental Protection Agency issued drinking water advisories for PFAS in June of 2022. The agency cautioned people could become ill from even a minute concentration of PFAS in water.  Sometimes the concentration of PFAS in water are so small, they cannot be detected. This doesn’t lessen the risk to humans and it means PFAS are dangerous at any concentration.

Environmental Health Perspectives: In this September, 2022 study, elevated cholesterol levels were associated with PFAS exposure.

National Toxicology Program of the United States Department of Health and Human Services and the International Agency for Research on Cancer: According to studies conducted by the NTP and IARC in 2016, both agencies determined a correlation between PFAS and adverse effects. According to the National Toxicology Program, PFOA and PFOS are “presumed to be an immune hazard to humans.” Similarly, the International Agency for Research on Cancer found “evidence” of “the carcinogenicity of . . . PFOA” in humans and in test animals.
